The client was building a highly energy efficientPassive House bungalow with a basement-level entertainment space. Their vision was clear - a smart home that offered performance, comfort, and modernity without compromising on simplicity or aesthetics. They wanted all systems towork in perfect harmony, making daily life easier while elevating the home's experience and value. They wanted a clean, seamless look throughout the house, future ready technology that is easy to use, and an entertainment space that would feel immersive and flexible.
The client had looked into smart home optionsbut found most setups overly complex or piecemeal. Their biggest concern was finding a team who could understand the technical requirements of a PassiveHouse while delivering a smart system that just works. They had hesitation around reliability and over complication of systems. They needed integration without compromising the architectural and energy efficiency aspects and wanted full confidence in how everything would be managed and supported post installation.
Contello carried out a fulldesignconsultation, taking into account the technical demands of the build, the layout and how the client wanted to live day to day. Every system was chosen and programmed to align with those expectations, and installed to an immaculate finish. Control4 system acted as the central brain for lighting, security, shading, audio and more. Lighting scenes and timer based controls were used for convenience and energy saving. Outdoor audio and garden lighting zones were linked to smart presets. Gate and intercom system was fully integrated into the Control4 interface. Shading systems were programmed to optimise daylight and thermal comfort. Multi room audio was implemented throughout, and a5.1surround sound setup was installed in the basement entertainment area. CCTV was integrated with the smart system not only for security but also to trigger exterior lighting based on motion detection from the cameras. All systems were wired, programmed and optimised for performance and future expansion.
The result is a smooth, intuitive smart home that fits into their lifestyle without friction. From the moment they walk in, the system adapts. Lights respond to the time of day, music follows them from room to room, and the house remains secure and comfortable at all times. Smart scenes create instant ambience in any room. The system is fully remote accessible and responsive from their smartphones. Visitors can be seen and granted entry via the integrated gate and intercom system. Exterior lights trigger automatically when movement is detected by CCTV, adding both convenience and safety. Overall, they now live in a home that feels calm, controlled and completely aligned with how they live.
